Duckie the Self-Aware Duck #14 A Re-Quack

Here's Duckie 14

So they finally make it out into the wild. I only realised after the fact how close this is to the Duck Season, Rabbit Season battle in the classic Loony Tunes cartoon starting Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny.

The punchline doesn't change the situation very much but just twists the knife just that little bit more.

ISH Comics Club Comics Jam: Squid's Evil Plan, Part 1

Here is a spectacular Comics Jam by the Intermediate group of the International School Hamburg's Comics Club which I run each Wednesday.

Each artist had to fill in the next panel. We brainstormed the first panel together. The focus wasn't on the art but rather the story and seeing how crazy it would get collaborating together.

We rolled a dice to see who went in what order we would go in. There were special panels, if artists landed on that panel they would roll a disc and have to work a numbered prop into the story.

Click on the first image to go through the Story and follow the adventures of Timmy (The ISH mascot) Squid, Ear Space Ear and Pirate Batman.

The props were:
A fake Ear
A toy Car
A pirate Batman Figure

You can learn more about the ISH Comics Club here: http://ishcomicsclub.blogspot.de or more about workshops and comics and illustration tuition here: www.pavementart.co.nz

This story continues in an incredible fashion the following week. Will post it up next week. Stay tuned!

The Diary of Arnold Annuson: a Sneak Peek

Work on the children's book Michel the Merman is is going really well. A substantial chunk has been finished and I'll being posting up a walk through of my progress soon.
Since a lot of the concept work of the book is finished, the time during commute to teaching gigs is being taken by a new project.

It's called the Diary of Arnold Annuson.

Here's some inked pages and some concept drawings of Arnold to give you a teaser of the story.

It's an idea I've had for a long time, but it go fully fleshed out when my friends and I were having a meal at Dieter Sanchez. Their reaction lead to more pitching ideas from me and the guys. Till I finally said "Let's do this"
I'll be posting the first issue here and may give it it's own site at one stage, we'll see how it goes. I am very excited in exploring the ideas I have for Arnold, trust me things get..... Wierd. ;-)

Duckie the Self-Aware Duck #13 A ReQuack

This Duckie continued the arch of running from the law. My favorite parts are actually at the start where Duckie ignores Rock's sarcastic comments. I remember the bus panel was slightly tricky, the shocked look from the passengers was worth it ;)

How to draw Cars, International Comics Club edition

I run a weekly Comic Book drawing club at the International School of Hamburg. It's a really fun club to run and am stoked to have such talented students. You learn more about it here:
ishcomicsclub.blogspot.com

We had an awesome lesson the other day where we use depth to draw cars. Here's the lesson for anyone to use:

The students drew some amazing artworks and then entered her cars in a flick pen tournament. Ido won in a close match in the finals vs Alessio, Hannah and Easton. As a prize I coloured one of the cars that he drew:
Ido's original
Colours by Myself
Excellent work Ido, It was alot of fun to colour.

Duckie the Self-Aware Duck #12 A Re-Quack

Here's the Calvin and Hobbes influence in full force. I thought Duckie dreaming in completely different artstyles would be a fun twist. Also you'll notice here that Rocks sleep. Why they need rest is anyone's guess.

Duckie the Self-Aware Duck #10

Hey guys, here's the first Duckie of the year:

This one make more sense if you read the last one here: http://pavementart.blogspot.de/2012/11/duckie-self-aware-duck-9-re-quack.html

This one took a few goes to get right, I always liked the stories that have an ongoing but could stand on their own. The challenge in that though is getting everyone up to speed on what happened in the first on or two panels and in this format, space is very precious.

This Duckie cartoon is one of the ones that I find more funny than the reader I think. The expression in the 2nd panel was really fun to draw. Rock's thought balloon was redrawn several times.

Happy New Year all :)
